2 Years Of Just Perspective
After writing film reviews for a year I sought something hard-hitting and ventured into slightly more serious territory through my blog “Just perspective” where I expressed my opinion on issues I felt strongly about. I have not written too many articles on this blog as I wanted to keep it very personal. I only write about issues that have had a deep impact on me. Since my blog is a passion project for me I did not want my approach towards writing it to be mechanical or monotonous and therefore I have refrained from being excessively active on it. On the two year anniversary of my blog I have written about the most relevant and talked about topic today , The COVID-19!
The Real Contagion
So a guy in China ate a bat and now the whole world is stuck inside their houses. It really puts things into perspective, doesn’t it? If we all listen carefully we can perhaps hear the sound of the fervent typing of those opinionated intellectuals who always loved presenting arguments stating the negative consequences of globalisation!
Thanks to the Coronavirus, which has spread even faster than wildfire over the world, words like quarantine and social distancing have become part of our daily vernacular. People who have travelled abroad or are known as ‘party animals’ are now not only no longer considered cool but have become social outcasts! All the advancement, development and progress that our world prides itself for achieving could not stop this virus from turning into a global pandemic!
India is on lockdown which means no one is allowed to step out of their houses, except in case of a medical emergency or to buy provisions. Only essential services are operating. Uk has also recently announced a lockdown but as per Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s latest address, those who cannot work from home are allowed to travel to and from work.
Both The World Health Organization and Us Centres For Disease Control and Protection have maintained that the only way to stop the spread of the virus is to avoid all kinds of social contact. They do not recommend people wear masks unless they are health care workers or show symptoms of the virus. It is advised that people should not buy masks unless it is absolutely essential that they have to step out of their homes and come in close contact with others. Panic and unnecessary purchasing of masks will lead to shortage of these for the health care workers who need them the most. I urge you all to act responsibly and if there is a need to purchase masks then please only buy disposable surgical masks or N-95 respirators which are both the only masks, if any recommended by health care organisations across the globe.
If we all stay at home and stay safe we can do our part in limiting the spread of the virus. Wash your hands regularly, eat immunity boosting fruits and vitamins and most importantly DO NOT PANIC!
I would also like to thank all the health care workers and essential service providers for their tireless dedication and selflessness in making us feel secure and a little bit more hopeful of seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
We must focus on the positive side of this situation. Technology and the digital landscape has for the zillionth time proven to be a reliable medium for us to fall back on. It has greatly helped in restoring and keeping running a huge chunk of the world’s activities. A number of institutions have now moved to remote learning and online classes. Businesses around the world are sustaining themselves through video conferencing and emailing. Our world has become more equipped to handle an emergency, should another such situation ever arise. The pollution levels have reduced considerably and streets are much cleaner. This challenge has given us all an opportunity to be constructive, innovative and productive. We must use this time to reconnect with our roots and spend more time with our loved ones. Let’s allow our hidden talents to emerge and take up those hobbies that we always wanted to pursue but just “never had the time for”. I am not philosophical but this may be the universe’s way of telling us to take a breath! It is comforting to know that we are all in this together and reassurance and support is just a phone call away!
Hopefully we will all come out of this stronger, re-energised and ready to take on the world with a fresh perspective!
Stay at home, stay safe and please do not panic!
